Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde AC ladies romped home easy winners in the latest fixture of the Mid Lancs track and field league match at Hyndburn at the weekend.

The Blackpool squad finished with a massive 204 points, way ahead of second placed Preston on 132 with the host club, Hyndburn and Bolton in third and fourth positions on 116 and 115 points respectively.

Katy Wyper was the most successful athlete on the day, winning the under 17 women's long jump with 5.05m coupled with second place in the 100m sprint in a time of 12.80 secs.

Megan Healey was also in fine form for the junior women, winning the triple jump with a distance of 9.52m followed by two third placings in the 100m in 13.50 seconds and the 200m in 27.60 seconds.

Nia Rutter, the younger sister of Kara (Panther) Nwidobie-Sharpe, was the busiest and most successful senior athlete at Hyndburn.

Nia displayed great dexterity, taking second place in the shot putt with a throw of 8.87m followed by third place in the long jump with 4.37m and fourth place in the 100m sprint in a time of 13.70 seconds.

Laura Deegan, who has been representing the club since her early teens, ran a well judged 800m to snatch second place in a time of two minutes 24.40 seconds.

For the senior men, field event supremo, John Rutter, was runner up in the high jump with a clearance of 1.63m to match the performance of his wife, Nia, who was runner-up in the senior womens shot putt.

Alex Bale showed improved strength in the 400m where he achieved a season's best performance of 52.00 seconds.

In the heavyweight division, Shane Ellershaw threw a solid 34.47m to take third place in the hammer throw competition, while the club's two veterans, Dave Myerscough and Bob Wyper took fourth place in their respective events with Dave putting the shot 9.62m and Bob throwing the discus 27.40m.

In the junior men's competition, Marcus Quarmby ran a strong 800m race to stop the clock at two minutes 13.40 seconds for a well deserved third place.

A depleted mens squad, however, could not match their female teammates, coming fourth in Division One with 115 points behind the winners and host club, Hyndburn Athletic Club.
