The Winter Indoor Track & Field Season finally got under way last weekend when two young BWFAC athletes competed in a high class meeting at the indoor stadium in Sheffield.

Kassidy Knight, the club's athlete of the month for October, ran exceptionally well in the 60m.sprint to record a time of 8.90 secs., only fractionally outside her personal best time for the distance of 8.94 secs.

Kassidy followed this up with a solid 3.98m. leap in the long jump, despite arriving too late to enable her to properly warm up for the event.

In her first competition in the under 17 womens category, Katy Wyper set a new personal best performance of 8.25 secs. in the 69m.sprint, finishing a highly creditable 3rd.in a mixed category race, behind 20 year old Glen Farruga from Malta and Jayne Norton of Middlesborough AC.

Several BWFAC youngsters feature prominently in the 2007 National track & field rankings which have been recently published in the sport's authoritative journal "Athletics Weekly".

In the under 13 girls lists, Lytham schoolgirl, Charlotte Evans is ranked 7th.in the 1200m.middle distance event with a time of 3 mins. 56.3 secs. and 9th. in the 1500m. with 5 mins.03.5 secs.

Meanwhile, Sophie Riley is placed 11th. in the 75m.sprint with a time of 10.25 secs., whilst for the under 13 boys, Charlotte's brother Alex is placed 17th. in the 1500m. with a time of 4 mins. 45.6 secs.

In the under 15 girls listings, Lucy Mansfield is placed 8th. in the 100m.sprint in a time of 12.4 secs.,12th. in the 200m. with 25.69 secs. and a superb 4th. in the 300m. with a time of 41.6 secs.

With the latter performance Lucy could well develop into a 400m.international athlete in a few years time.

Her training partner, Megan Healey, also makes the 300m. list in 16th.position with a time of 42.5 secs. whilst for the under 15 boys, James Davies is placed 12th. in the long jump with 6.11m.

As expected, Arnold schoolgirl, Hannah Dickson, is well placed in the under 17 womens high jump although her seasons best clearance of 1.75m. has been surprisingly bettered this year by 14 year old schoolgirl, Katarina Thompson of Liverpool Harriers.

Katerina's clearance of 1.80m. relegates Hannah to 2nd place in the national rankings.

Finally in the under 17 mens lists, the club's Biathlete champion, Steve Mason just makes the national rankings in the 3000m.distance event where he is placed 20th. with a time of 8 mins. 53.11 secs. whilst Freckleton's Junior International, Max Eaves is placed 2nd. in the under 20 mens pole vault with a clearance of 5.00m.behind Luke Cutts who tops the list with 5.40m.
