The year's track and field season drew to a close last weekend with BWFAC athletes collecting a total of 29 medals at the 47th Annual Illuminations Medal Meeting at the Stanley Park Arena.12 gold,10 silver and 7 bronze.

Three athletes struck double gold with Lucy Mansfield crowning a highly successful season with a customary sprint double in the under 15 girls division with times of 12.7 secs. in the 100m. and 26.5 secs. in the 200m. Sophie Riley mirrowed Lucy's success by taking the sprint double for the under 13 girls with times 11.1 secs.for the 80m.and 28.5 secs.in the 200m.

One of the club's youngest athletes, however, went one better with two golds and a silver in the under 9 boys category.

Oliver Tomlinson demonstrated great dexterity in taking gold in the 80m.sprint in 13.2 secs. followed by gold in the middle distance 800m. event in 2 mins. 55.4 secs. before narrowly missing his third gold medal in the long jump with a silver distance of 2.98m.

In the under 13 boys age group, Alex Nash ran strongly to secure the gold medal in the 800m. in a time of 2 mins. 32.1 secs. although his time was only marginally ahead of Bradley Yates who snatched gold for the under 11 boys in 2 mins. 32.5 secs. Alex also took silver in the high jump with a clearance of 1.30m. behind his clubmate Matthew Walker who took the gold with a superb clearance of 1.42m.

The club's junior international high jump champion, Hannah Diickson, rounded off a highly successful outdoor season with a competant 1.70m. clearance in the under 17 womens event, whilst in the senior mens division, Damian Clayson just managed to maintain male dominence in the high jump with a clearance of 1.75m. The club's national veteran champion,Dave Myerscough, took the discus gold medal with a throw of 30.42m. and Elizabeth Hodgson won a well earned silver medal in the senior womens 800m. where she recorded a time of 2 mins. 28.4 secs.

In the absence of a pole vault competition, Matt Wright turned his attention to the high jump where he took the senior mens silver medal with a clearance of 1.60m. Katy Wyper was a double sprint silver medalist for the under 15 girls with times of 13.1 secs. and 27.0 secs.for the 100m.and 200m.whilst James Davies won the high jump gold in the same age group with a clearance of 1.60m.

Ciaran Johnson had a fruitful afternoon in the under 9 boys category with a silver medal in the 800m. with a time of 3 mins. 11.08 secs. followed by two bronze medals in the 80m.sprint in 14.0 secs. and the long jump with 2.89m.

Young Tash Gardner claimed the long jump silver medal for the under 11 girls from a large field of over 20 athletes with a jump of 3.71m. and Kassidy Knight took silver for the under 13 girls with a leap of 4.27m.

Other bronze medals were won by Jack Hails in the under 11 boys 80m.sprint in 12.10 secs; Dominic Lavelle in the under 11 boys long jump with 3.67m; Charlotte Evans in the under 13 girls 800m. in 5 mins. 09.20 secs; Joe Gigli in the under 15 boys 1500m. in 4 mins. 46.7 secs.and Lydia Critchley in the under 15 girls 800m.in 2 mins. 28.10 secs.
