Last weekend was an eventful time for BWFAC athletes who were competing at meetings across the UK.

Pride of place must go to the club's distance international, Antony Ford, who contested the 5000m in the UK Challenge at the Crystal Palace Stadium where he came a close second to Phil Wicks of Belgrave Harriers in yet another sub 14 minute time of 13 mins 58.20 secs to Wicks 13 mins 56.50 secs.

Eleven of the club's athletes were selected to represent Lancashire in the Northern Inter-Counties Championships at Hull.

Matt Wright rose to the occasion with a superb clearance of 4.20m to win the senior men's pole vault gold medal by a clear 70cm ahead of Mike Sweeney of Merseyside.

Chris Beggan was the busiest local athlete, taking a bronze medal in the senior men's medley relay where the Lancashire team clocked 3 mins 55.22 secs behind Lincolnshire and Merseyside. Chris was also placed 5th in the 400m hurdles with 61.32 secs and 7th in the 200m in a time of 24.36 secs.

Other senior BWFAC athletes at Hull were Shane Ellershaw who took bronze in the hammer throw competition with 34.68m and National veteran champion,Dave Myerscough who came 7th in the shot putt event with a throw of 30.08m.

In the under 17 mens category, Declan O'Hara took bronze in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.40m and came 4th in the long jump with a leap of 5.40m. Whilst Sam Channon just missed the bronze medal in the 3000m where he was timed at 9 mins.29.97 secs.

James Davies struck gold in the under 15 boys long jump with a leap of 5.82m before taking 4th place as a member of the medley relay in 2 mins 30.47 secs, whilst Louis Schofield came a creditable 4th in the under 15 boys 100m.sprint in a time of 12.14 secs.
