Darwen 0 AFC Blackpool 1
10:13am Monday 9th February 2009 in Sport
CRISIS club Darwen were beaten in what many feared might be their last ever game against AFC Blackpool on Saturday.
With the club facing a winding up order on Wednesday, Darwen appealed for fans to make their way to the Anchor Ground for the Vodkat First Division clash.
There were nearly as many players as fans when a crowd of 30 watched Darwen’s last home game, which was as far back as November 1 with the winter weather keeping the Anchor Ground out of action since then.
This time an increased attendance of 77 were present, with Darwen now hoping to keep playing until the end of the season as they bid to fight their winding up order.
Darwen went in level at half time but AFC Blackpool scored the only goal of the game in the 64th minute. A corner was met with a header by Carroll, which was cleared off the line but the rebound fell to Wood, who headed home.
To cap a miserable afternoon for Darwen, they had both Chris Nuttall and Martin Parker sent off in quick succession for dissent after a disputed free kick.
