Blackpool boss Simon Grayson hopes the 2-0 win over struggling Charlton can give his side some much-needed momentum.

Liam Dickinson scored a second-half brace to take his tally to four goals in two games as the home side increased Charlton’s Coca-Cola Championship relegation fears.

Dickinson, 23, is on a month’s loan at Bloomfield Road from Derby and scored twice as a substitute on his debut in last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Plymouth.

That was enough to earn him a starting role and he responded by netting another deadly double with strikes in the 47th and 56th minutes.

The towering forward headed home a cross from Lee Hendrie to open the scoring and then sealed the win with a clinical finish from close range nine minutes later.

The result keeps Charlton firmly rooted in the relegation zone but Blackpool have been rejuvenated thanks to Dickinson’s arrival.

Seasiders boss Simon Grayson admitted the momentum provided by consecutive victories is vital.

He said: “Back-to-back wins are so important in this division, it’s so close that they can get you further up the table quite quickly.

”I knew if we kept working hard playing decent football we would get up the table. The goal lifted our confidence and the belief started to return and we went on to finish quite comfortable winners.”

As for Dickinson, Grayson said: “He has character and he’s an honest lad.

”He’s had a bit of a rollercoaster career but he might now have earned legend status here.

”I wasn’t sure whether to start him as Steve Kabba had played so well last week but I think in the end I made the right choice.”

Dickinson himself was just delighted to be in the team ”I wouldn’t have been too disappointed not to have started after the team played so well last week,” he said.

”I must admit when I was playing local football in Manchester I maybe thought I would make the Unibond Premier League but never dreamed of this.

”However, I’ve always put the work in, got lucky at times and people have believed in me.

”In fact Paul Jewell has believed in me enough to spend a large amount of money on me and I just want to repay him.”
