The family of a 'devoted family man' from Thornton who was killed in a head-on road collision have paid tribute to him.

Leonard Miller, 59, died after a head-on smash on the A59, Longsight Rd at Clayton-le-Dale, between Preston and Clitheroe, on Saturday.

His daughter Shona, wife Janet, who was injured in the accident and his brother Keith released an emotional joint statement about Mr Miller.

The statement reads: "We are clearly in somewhat of a state of shock and still coming to terms over this tragic accident.

"Len was a devoted family man, married to his wife Janet for close on 40 years, with one daughter Shona, aged 23, who was very much the apple of his eye.

"The only comfort the family can take from this tragic accident is that Len died in the company of his longstanding wife and his beloved dog, Pom Pom, who had been his constant companion for many years.

"Mrs Miller is currently in the Royal Preston hospital recovering from her injuries, but is expected to be discharged within the next few days.

In addition to his immediate family Len leaves behind a brother Keith and sister Linda and many friends, including those of the Cleveleys Park Club, where Len was a committee member and will be sadly missed by all."

Police are still appealing for anyone with information on the incident to contact them on 0845 1253545.
