A Cleveleys' writer is hoping the Da Vinci effect will boost interest in his latest book, which has been 23 years in the making.

Malcolm Brocklehurst, 73, (pictured) will have his controversial book, The Secret History of Christianity, published on April 13.

The book touches on themes of the Christian church, templars, masons and the Holy Grail, themes familiar to those in Dan Brown's multi-million selling novel, The Da Vinci Code.

Yet Malcolm's work on the book and interest in the subject pre-dates Brown's work by many years.

Malcolm, of North Drive, said: "I was contracting in Toulouse France in the aerospace industry in 1985 when I read the best seller The Holy Blood, Holy Grail and consequently became interested in the local historical site of Rennes le Chateau.

"I conducted detailed research and returned to the subject to write the book over the six years since my retirement.

"There is an enormous resurgence of interest in this subject recently with several books and films made. But I'm convinced my theories are different to those previously published."

The Toulouse site becomes the centrepiece of the book in which Malcolm puts forward the view of a relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene and alleges the Church of Rome suppressed the marriage of Jesus with the evidence portrayed in codes in the medieval paintings of Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci.

The Secret History of Christianity is Malcolm's first non-fiction book and he also writes poetry and is chairman of Cleveleys' Writers.

Malcolm also writes under the pseudonym of Majinka and is writing an historical novel about a family over 400 years from aristocratic Elizabethan England to the Russian Revolution.

The Secret History of Christianity will be available from local branches of Waterstones and online book vendors.

It's obvious that Mr John Mason has little or no grasp of history. Uncritical acceptance of books like the one authored by Brocklehurst is the unfortunate legacy of useless tosh like "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" and "The Da Vinci Code".

An excellent well written account of happenings that take us on an exciting thought-provoking journey back in time. I'm not usually a big fan of the conspiracy theory genre; but, as a modern day Knight Templar and a Prince of the Rose Crois of Heredom I was compelled to pick this book up and all in all ; irrespective as to what Paul Smith says i myself found it to be a fascinating read. Disappointed though to learn there are photos on the author's webpage; why couldn't same have appeared in this book too?"

Brocklehurst has repeated a mixture of Plantard's mythology and pseudo-hypothesis found in Holy Blood, Holy Grail. The real historical origins of the Merovingians are found in the Latin sources that Brocklehurst is completely unaware of.
There is a big difference between history and fake history.

To Paul Smith. Your remark that the merovingians were anti semetic is only partly true and only occurred wheb Charles Martell fought the Moors.. However my understanding of Merovingian history as a layman is that before the Merovingians, the Visigoth Arcadians were descended from the Benjamites, who as commiters of idolatry were driven out of the Holy Lands by fellow Israelites. These ancestors of the Visigoths had settled originally in the Greek area of Arcadia but circa 1000 BC they had been forced to resettle in France and by the beginning of the fifth century, the Visigoths had formed a kingdom in the Lanquedoc with Toulouse as its capital. Eventually the Kingdom of the Visigoths stretched its boundaries from those southern regions of France through into Spain. But it was French legends of the Lanquedoc region that claimed Mary Magdalene’s descendants married into the Visigoths. Due to the influence of Mary Magdalene and her party who had escaped from the Holy land, a form of Christianity evolved and flourished in the Lanquedoc. The Christian belief introduced by the Magdalene slowly developed and expanded over the next four centuries and it was in the fourth century that the French branch or style of Christianity took on and absorbed amother branch of Christianity that became known as Arianism. The faith of Arianism was a philosophy originated by Bishop Arius (250 to 336AD) who rejected the dual divinity of Jesus Christ. Consequently by logical progression of that belief, Arianism also rejected the Holy Trinity, thus making the conversion of the European tribes to Arianism a threat to the Catholic Church of Rome. The visigoths were absorbed by marriage into the Merovingians and it is they who are the base of the rennes le chateau mystery. But who am I a lay person to question the intellect of you Paul.

Does Paul Smith actually realize the fool he is playing? Wikepedia have critizied his attempts to add serious contributions to the encyclopedia. On one page I note that an editor is considering banning him.

And Malcolm Brocklehurst should avoid the modern romantic allegations concerning the Merovingians, if he were to read any of the history books he would soon discover that the Merovingians were anti-semitic.

Malcolm Brocklehurst seriously needs a reality check. His book are full of woolly ideas taken from other uncritical books. The source of these legends lie in the dispute over relics. And the legends do not predate the relics which themselves are fake.

to Paul smith, facts...Lazarus was the first archbishop of marseilles. He and Mary Magdelane landed in a boat from the Holy Land circa 40/ad. Fact, the Merovingians had a deal with the Vatican on which the church regeged. The Merovingians were descended from a jewish Royal tribe. and held the magdelane in esteem. Its all in the book. Read it, then you are qualified to comment. until then, remain one of those who 'will not see'

I do not deal with theories. I do not work for the Vatican. Valid theories are based on facts and there are absolutely no facts based on the Jesus Bloodline, only wishful thinking.

Paul Smith, are you still at war with the pos web group? I have read much of your counter theories, much speculation is used to de-bunk several valid theories. Are you working for the Vatican? Respectfully, Dennis Igou.

Make no mistake about this, Malcolm Brocklehurst will base everything on wishful thinking and assumptions - not on historical or archaeological evidence. Pseudohistory is a massive growth industry. See:
