A Cleveleys couple, who had a stillborn child last year, have launched an appeal in support of the delivery suite’s family bereavement room at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Campbell McKean, 32, and wife Samantha, 29, are looking to raise £5,000 in memory of their son Finlay William McKean, who was stillborn on November 25, 2007.

The McKeans will be donating any monies raised to improve the hospital’s existing bereavement room, which provides some quiet time for patients who have had stillborn babies.

Campbell said: “I would really like to encourage as many people as possible to make a donation, even if it is only £1. So far we’ve raised approximately £1,500 but we still have a long way to go.

“There are currently just over 1,000 members on our Facebook site and I’m hoping many more people will sign up to it.

“One of my friends, Pete Waywell, who works at Bispham Fire Station took part in the Rotherham Round 50 last Saturday.

“He came twelfth out of 200 and raised around £350 towards this cause, and for that we are most grateful.

“Where donations are made online via Facebook, I would like to ask people to post some comments which will help us keep track of who has made a donation.”

Paul Bailey, head of fundraising and voluntary services at Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I would like to thank Campbell and Samantha McKean for their fundraising efforts.

“I know how much it means to them to be able to help improve our delivery suite’s family Bereavement Room in memory of Finlay.”

Donations can be made by cheque made payable to Blue Skies Hospital Fund and sent to the Hospital; or donations can be made safely and directly online via Facebook under Please Donate to Blackpool Maternity Unit.
