Do you want to play a part in local democracy?

Wyre Borough Council is looking for local people, preferably with some knowledge of how local government works, to serve on the panel which reviews the allowances payable to councillors.

All councils are required, under the Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) Regulations 2003 to establish and maintain an Independent Remuneration Panel to be responsible for monitoring the Members' Allowance Scheme and to make recommendations to the council regarding the scheme.

Three new members are needed for such a panel in Wyre.

Applicants must not be an elected member of the council or any of its committees, nor must they be disqualified from becoming a member of the council.

Meetings usually take place two or three times a year at the Civic Centre in Poulton, but more frequent attendance may be required during a full review of the allowances scheme which is due to be carried out in Wyre shortly.

The post is on a voluntary permanent basis but travelling expenses to meetings can be reclaimed.

More details about the appointments to the Independent Remuneration Panel are available from Philippa Davies, Director of Finance and Revenues, on 01253 887370 or Roy Saunders, Democratic Services and Scrutiny Manager, on 01253 887481.

An application form, together with full details of the requirements of the appointment, the type of person being sought and additional background information can be downloaded from the website at www.wyrebc.gov.uk/Find/59144.

Alternatively call 01253 887481 or write to Democratic Services, Civic Centre, Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde, FY6 7PU.

Completed application forms must be received by 5pm on Friday 17 October.

Interviews are likely to be held during the week commencing October 20.
