A cadet volunteer from Poulton-le-Fylde today received a military award for her work in the community at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

Flight Lieutenant Jackie Brown from the Cumbria and North Lancashire Wing Air Training Corps, Officer Commanding 206 (Thornton-Cleveleys) Squadron, received the award at the national CVQO (Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation) graduation ceremony.

She was presented with a Graduateship in Youth Management and Training by Admiral the Lord West of Spithead GCB DSC DUniv, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Security and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, CVQO.

She is one of 86 adult volunteers from the Ministry of Defence’s sponsored Cadet Forces across the UK to graduate with internationally recognised awards from City & Guilds through CVQO this year.

The awards recognise at least five years of professional development and managerial experience.

Jackie became involved with the Air Training Corps when girls were first being introduced into the organisation in 1982, having spent the previous six years with the Girls Venture Corps (Air Wing).

She later pursued a career in the armed forces as a stores accountant in the Women’s Royal Naval Service.

She now works at BAE Systems as a sub-contractor in the aviation sector.

Jackie said: “It is really nice to be recognised, to be able to quantify what you have done and worked hard for: that it has been worth it.

”It is very impressive to be at Sandhurst and it is a really fantastic graduation day.”
