Relief for Lancashire commuters as rail strike suspended

A 24-hour strike by around 100 Northern Rail drivers scheduled for Monday has been suspended following talks.

Train drivers in the RMT and ASLEF unions were set to undertake a 24-hour stoppage which would have called a halt to the majority of local services across Lancashire.

But this afternoon it was announced that Monday's action has been suspended pending further discussions.

Back in September train drivers were balloted and 90 per cent agreed to industrial action, amid claims that more than 70 grievances remained unresolved.

How your Northern Rail service would have been affected:

Leeds – Morecambe – normal timetable
York – Blackpool – amended timetable
Colne - Blackpool - no service
Clitheroe - Manchester - no service
Preston - Ormskirk - no service
