UPDATE: Police are appealing to hoteliers in Blackpool to help them track down the family of a man who has been seriously injured in a road accident.

At about 11.20am yesterday 91-year-old Cyril Bottomley was involved in a collision with a 7.5 ton lorry on the car park of the Teanlowe Shopping Centre in Poulton le Fylde.

Mr Bottomley was trapped under the vehicle and had to be cut free by Lancashire Fire and rescue Service.

He was taken to the Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he is in a serious condition.

Officers found a hotel key on Mr Bottomley but very little other identification.

It is believed he may be from the Halifax area and was visiting the Fylde Coast.

Police are now asking hoteliers if Mr Bottomley is a guest at their premises in an effort to trace his next of kin.

PC Christopher Ashworth said: "We would ask local hoteliers in the area to see if they have a Mr Bottomley staying with them.

"He is in a serious condition in hospital and we need to inform his family.

"If anyone does have any information then they should call 01524 63333."
