A search has begun for bereaved relatives who donated trees in a St Annes park.

A group of commemorative trees are set to be moved as part of regeneration works in Ashton Gardens.

But before they are disturbed the council’s parks team are appealing for information about their benefactors.

The trees carry plaques that bear the names Bill Cousins (two trees), Irene and Frank Allen, and Stan and Margaret Kelly and were put in place some years ago.

Since then, Fylde council has lost contact with the families who donated the trees and would like to notify them of the planned move.

Councillor Simon Renwick, cabinet member for community services, said: “For various reasons the people who we had on record as being connected with the trees are no longer contact-able but we feel it is important we respect the memory of the people named on the trees by notifying those who commemorated them in this way.

“The trees will not be lost; they will be carefully replanted in another location in the park where they will be safe from the disruption the extensive work there will involve.”

The trees are being moved to make way for rebuilding of the famous pavilion in the park, along with other regeneration work that will get under way within the next two months.

If anyone has any details of the families or friends of people named on the trees they are being asked to contact Adam Nagy, parks development officer, by calling 01253 658463 or emailing adamn@fylde.gov.uk.
