St Annes' karate club fight for cash

Members of the St Annes’ Shotokan Karate Club are fighting fit after winning a £3,500 grant from the National Lottery Awards for All programme.

The money will be used to fund a series of special training sessions led by the top Shotokan experts from across the country.

Eileen Bailey established the club earlier this year and there are already 15 members.

Fourth Dan Eileen, who lives in St Annes and has been training for almost 30 years, said: “News of this grant is fantastic and will make a huge difference to our club.

“We could hardly believe it, but now we have a 12-month programme of specialist training fully funded. It is a massive motivation for our members who have been training so hard.”

The karate club meets at the Scout Hut on St Thomas’s Road and at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club in St Annes and members range from age seven to adult.

The club will run a beginners’ session at the Scout Hut, St Thomas’s Road, St Annes, on Saturday, December 13. Call 07989 908135.
