A BODY of a baby has been found in a culvert in Lancashire by a dog walker.
The child, who is believed to be around two months old, was found in Kirkham. Police said there is no evidence to suggest that the child has links to the area.
Detectives launched a major in investigation following the discovery at 2pm on Saturday.
They are appealing for the mother of the child and anyone with information to come forward.
The death is being treated as unexplained, however a post mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
Police are yet to establish the sex of the child.
Detective superintendent Neil Esseen, who is leading the investigation, said: “I want to stress that although the child was found in Kirkham we have no evidence that the child is from the local area.
“Therefore would ask anyone from across the country who has concerns to come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
