Conservative Party leader, David Cameron, has backed a campaign against housing developments on Wesham’s and rural Fylde’s green spaces which local councillors claim is unnecessary.

Wesham's Tory councillor Simon Renwick, has this week issued a call to arms to the defenders of the town's green spaces by joining a new community based action group.

Save Our Green Spaces, or SOGS, was set up on last Sunday when more than 20 local residents gathered to hold a short peaceful demonstration against the latest proposals.

It comes as Metacre, a land holding company, is in talks with Fylde Council bosses to develop land North of Mowbreck Lane, in Wesham, for about 200 more houses.

But campaigners claim that the plan puts extra pressure on already strained schools, roads, doctors and facilities.

Councillor Renwick said: “I was please that so many local residents, who had only been e-mailed a few days before, turned out to protest.

"I think this is a sign of the strength of feeling against this development.

"One lady even came from Manchester to protest - she grew up in the local area and can’t believe more houses are being thought about.

"We do have a lack of information at present and I have had to put in a request under the Freedom of Information Act to find out all what has been going on.

"But it is clear, Wesham is full and I’m not in favour of any more large scale applications for new houses in Wesham.”

The campaign already has the backing of the Conservative Party leader and the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, Mr Renwick said.
