A series of short road closures will affect the M55 motorway from Sunday to June.

High voltage overhead cables are being replaced between junctions one and three, as part of a National Grid scheme to renew 65 kilometres of power lines in the North West.

The closures will last just a matter of minutes, and are being times to cause minimum disruption.

Asrar Hussain, Highways Agency project manager, said: "In order to complete the overhead works safely and to protect both the public and the workforce during these works we are planning to temporarily close the motorway in both directions.

"The works are planned to take only five minutes and will be implemented using a rolling road block undertaken by the Highways Agency's Traffic Officer Service.

"In order to minimise any delays, the works have been scheduled to be undertaken during the early morning at weekends."

The work is taking place between this Sunday and June 26.
