Organisers of the annual Friends of Kirkham Grammar School Winter Ball this year decided that one element of the evening should benefit the wider community.

As a result of a very popular Pink Lucky Dip, sponsored by the glowhouse.com', they will present a cheque for £1,000 to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation at the school on Wednesday, at 3pm.

Headmaster, Douglas Walker, said: "The Friends of Kirkham Grammar School raise a significant amount of money for the school over the year.

"But like any section of the community, we at Kirkham are affected by cancer too and it is a pleasure to be able to give a little back to a charity that does so much to support people being treated for cancer in this area."

The donation will be presented to Sue Thompson, Chief Officer of the Rosemere Cancer Foundation by Mr Walker and Mrs Lorraine Wareing, Chairman of the Friends of Kirkham Grammar School.

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation raises funds to support the provision of cancer services at the region's dedicated cancer centre at Royal Preston Hospital and local cancer units throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria, including the Windmill Unit at Blackpool, by raising over half a million pounds a year to fund local research, patient welfare projects, additional equipment and training.
