The takeover of Blackpool International Airport could see several new routes added within a year, it has been announced today.
The news came as key figures from Balfour Beatty's airport control business, Regional&City Airports (RCA), outlined their future plans.
And that included suggestions that several new routes are planned for the airport.
Clive Coleman, development director at RCA, said: "We want to make Blackpool the airport of choice for the residents of Lancashire and Cumbria, this airport has so much untapped potential that we believe it can continue to grow.
"We will invest £90million over the next 20 years, and will be looking at expanding the routes offered at the airport as soon as possible."
Clive Condie, the chief executive of Churchill Airports, who will be helping to run the airport, said: "We believe the catchment area is bigger than many airline carriers have realised, and that these figures haven't been shown to them before. We are confident we can persuade airlines to offer more routes out of and into Blackpool."

The resort's council leader, Coun Peter Callow, described the day as a momentous one for the future of the town.
He said: "This is a massive boost for Blackpool, it's a red letter day, the regeneration of the town will push on from here and these are exciting times."
