Motorcyclist injured in Blackpool crash

A motorcyclist was rushed to hospital after a crash involving a police van responding to an emergency call.

The police vehicle had just left Blackpool police station at 5.15pm yesterday.

It collided with the motorbike close to traffic lights at the junction of New Bonny Street and the Promenade.

The motorcyclist, a man aged 46, was knocked off his bike into the road.

He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and later discharged.

A police spokesman said officers were investigating the cause of the collision and were seeking witnesses.

He added: "We would appeal for passengers on a bus, which was travelling south and passed the scene, to come forward to help our investigation."

The Promenade was closed for more than an hour causing traffic delays.

Witnesses are asked to call Blackpool police on 01253 293933.
