LANCASHIRE police are holding an action-packed open day in June to launch Operation Summer Nights.

Visitors will be able to take a look inside the police helicopter, take a tour around an ambulance and major incident support vehicles, speak to trained armed police officers, and see the police horses in riot training action.

There will also be an organised police dog display, a tour through the Crime Scene Investigation tent, and a chip pan fire demonstration.

It is the third open day of its kind at Lancashire Constabulary's headquarters site in Hutton, Preston, on Sunday June 29.

Agencies from across Lancashire will provide interactive displays all aimed at promoting the Operation Summer Nights campaign message - Drink sensibly this summer'.

Lancashire Constabulary assistant chief constable Chris Weigh said: "Operation Summer Nights is now in its third year and it goes from strength to strength.

"Last year we had more than 4,000 visitors despite the poor weather and we are hoping for even more this year so don't miss out and register for your free ticket."

Organisers have made 6,000 tickets available on a first come, first served basis and these will be available from 8am tomorrow.

To reserve tickets, register online at www.lancashire.police.uk or www.LimaCharlie.org or by calling 01772 412008.

we went to this event last year and had a fantastic time. Probably because we are normal law abiding people who dont cause trouble or have criminal records to make us too paranoid to attend! its a great insight to how things work and what things look like - I have always wondered what the inside of a police van looked like. all the emergancy services are very informative. we are looking forward to going again this year to support our local police
