An evaluation of Fleetwood's alleygates is being carried out by the Wyre Community Safety Partnership.

The move on November 25 will look at the current gate provision, whether further gates are needed and how the scheme can be taken forward as part of the Partnership's fight against crime and anti-social behaviour.

Part of the process will involve engagement with the local community and to that end residents are invited to call in at the Beehive Community Centre, Manor Road, on the day itself between 2pm and 4pm.

They will be able to give feedback on their experience of the 11 existing alleygate schemes and suggest hot spots that might benefit from them in the future.

The Partnership has commissioned the University of Central Lancashire to carry out the work through its Crime Solutions fund.

Partnership chair Councillor Graeme Cocker said: "If it becomes clear from talking to residents that alleygates make neighbourhoods feel safer, we can look at expanding on them in the future as part of a range of community cohesion measures.

"Where possible we want people to take ownership of these spaces and not let them become overgrown or unused, which is why we are keen to put these questions direct to the communities themselves."
