THE brutal murder of Barrowford nurse Jane Clough will feature on prime time television tonight.

In the first of three one-hour long programmes on ITV called Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son, her parents John and Penny Clough talk about her death and how they have adjusted to life without the 26-year-old.

The show also speaks to police who worked on the case and a behavioural analyst to try and explain why Jane’s ex-boyfriend Jonathan Vass killed her.

Penny said the prime-time 9pm slot will be a big boost in highlighting their frustration and anger about the case.

She said: “It is a very emotive programme and literally made us cry within minutes.

"It shows the pain behind what’s happened not just to us, but to her friends.”

The programme, filmed from March to May, shows pictures of Jane and Vass together on holiday, just as the abuse was beginning. John then talks about his ‘unease’ about Jane’s whirlwind romance with Vass.

Within six months they were living together and Jane was pregnant. But by October 2009 she had reported him for raping her.

He said: “You can have a gut feeling about somebody and there is a gut feeling that there is something that is not quite right but you can’t put your finger on it.

“It’s any father’s worst nightmare of the worst things that could happen to your daughter.”

Penny said: “There’s a very good description from the profiler about Vass’s controlling behaviour. That’s how he was – a control freak.

“It is an open and honest portrayal of how hard we are finding it to deal with our grief.”

Ruth Gray, producer, said: “It has been a great privilege to spend time with John and Penny and Jane’s sister Louise - and to be able to tell Jane's story.

“They are an incredible family dealing with terrible tragedy.”

The programme is on ITV1 at 9pm tonight.
