AN online petition backing a change in the Bail Act in memory of murdered Lancashire nurse Jane Clough has been signed by more than 1700 people.
Last month, Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson lodged a bill with Parliament that would give the prosecution a right to appeal against judges’ decisions to give defendants bail.
It is one of several changes to the criminal justice system being asked for by Jane’s parents, John and Penny Clough, who have launched a Justice For Jane campaign.
Their daughter’s killer, Jonathan Vass, was on bail at the time accused of raping her.
The bill has so far been supported by more than 50 MPs from all three major political parties.
The petition gained about 1,000 signatures in its first 24 hours of going live.
