A team of bikers have raised funds for Blackpool Victoria Hospital in memory of a family member who died of heart failure earlier this year.
The organisers of the Hercules Run, an annual event which sees local motorcyclists get together to raise funds for worthy causes, donated this year’s money to the cardiac centre at the Vic.
Organiser Geoff Madden said: “I set up this event seven years ago in memory of my grandfather as I thought it would be a nice way to remember him. Each year we donate the proceeds from this annual fundraising event to a worthy cause. This year we’ve raised £3,000 and I wanted to donate this to the Lancashire Cardiac Centre in memory of my brother Steve, who died of heart failure at the beginning of the year. “There were around 150 bikers and their pillion passengers in this year’s run, the largest number to date.
“We encourage all bikers, young and old, to join in and we’ve received positive feedback from those who have taken part.”
The run, which received support from local organisations including ‘C’ Cabs taxis, local schools and volunteers, and Blackpool and Fylde College, took place on Sunday October 5 from Preesall to Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales.
Paul Bailey, head of fundraising at the Vic, said: “I would like to thank Geoff and his family and friends and all those involved in the run for raising such a magnificent amount for the Cardiac Centre.”

I don't know how newspapers manage to get the story wrong by the time it goes to print. The Evening Gazette did the same.
