Future of Blackpool's CCTV under scrutiny

The future of CCTV in Blackpool is under review with the opinions of residents being sought to give a clearer picture.

A working group has been formed to review public realm CCTV in Blackpool with the aim of reviewing its purpose and effectiveness and determine whether it achieves its aims.

Blackpool Council is asking people whether CCTV in the area is at its most effective or whether there are any ideas about how it can be improved.

The working group is made up of five councillors who review CCTV and report back to the council on their findings.

A council spokesman said: “As part of the review process, the council would like to hear thoughts and feelings on CCTV provision across the town.

“Comments will help the working group to gain an insight into the impact that CCTV has on residents and will enable residents to have a say on how CCTV is working and ways in which it could be improved. Ideas and topics that will be covered in the scrutiny process are, whether it meets needs, if it makes people feel safe, if it deters crime and if it can be improved across the town.”

There are three ways of getting your views across: by post, to Georgina Atkinson, Municipal Buildings, Corporation Street, Blackpool, FY1 1NF, by emailing, georgina.atkinson@blackpool.gov.uk or by calling Georgina directly on 01253 477164.

All submissions should be made by Friday, August 22.
