Lancashire Police has lowest overheads in country
6:00am Friday 27th January 2012 in News
THE bill for running police buildings in Lancashire is the lowest out of every force in England and Wales.
Lancashire Police has closed front counters and is currently looking to sell off a number of its police bases in a bid to bring down its estate running costs.
It is part of a bid to make £43million of savings by 2014-15.
Yet figures reveal it already has the lowest estate management overheads such as rent and energy bills.
Coun Malcolm Doherty, chairman of Lancashire Police Authority, said: “It proves that in Lancashire we operate a lean operation and invest money generated through council tax responsibly.”
“Over the past 12 months we have faced tough choices to ensure the force runs at maximum efficiency but we are confident that all of those decisions have ensured the best possible outcomes for the communities we serve.”

The reason it has such low costs is because the housing and buildings in lancashire are the cheapest in the UK. As regards the energy costs this is because the gas and electric meters are all bypassed. Recently I have seen police officers pushing their cars to get to a job (saving on fuel), & on bicycles with flashing blue lights. The other day when I had to produce my driving license they were walking around the police station with candles.
