Dogs have always been a postman’s worst enemy but now a Thornton postie is biting back.
Andy Brown is launching a campaign to get pet owners to keep their animals under control after he was attacked and bitten while delivering mail.
And Royal Mail this week hosted Dog Awareness Day for staff, and warned more and more deliveries were being suspended because of the dangers they face.
Andy said the dog leapt out of nowhere to bite him on the ankle, and said postmen should be able to do their job without fearing for their safety.
He said: “This is the second time I’ve been bitten while on deliveries in the last three weeks and it shouldn’t be happening.”
The Royal Mail says there were 59 dog attacks on postmen in the Blackpool and Preston area in April alone this year.
Owners are encouraged to keep their dogs away from postmen, and to consider installing letter cages or mailboxes outside their house.
