POLICE and fire bosses have teamed up to encourage Lancashire people to drink safely over summer.
The Summer Nights campaign, focuses on reducing fire deaths and injuries caused by the mistakes people make when drinking alcohol.
Now in its fourth year, the campaign also involves Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety and the Lancashire Drugs and Alcohol Action Team.
Peter Holland, chief fire officer for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We don’t want to spoil people’s enjoyment of alcohol this summer, we would just urge people to drink sensibly and make sure they keep themselves safe from the risk of fire.”
He said holidaymakers should ensure their accommodation has a working smoke alarm on each floor and familiarise themselves with their new surroundings and plan escape routes.
Holiday destinations like thatched cottages and caravans were also potential fire hazards.
