Rebel landlord Hamish Howitt lost his deposit after polling a mere 65 votes in the Glasgow Easy by-election yesterday.

Mr Howitt, who runs two bars in Blackpool, has vigorously opposed the smoking ban since it was introduced.

He stood for the Freedom 2 Choose party.

In the election the Scottish National Party has pulled off victory in one of Labour's safest seats, by 365 votes.

The SNP overturned a Labour majority of 13,507 to win with a swing of 22.54 per cent.

Correction: Hamish Howitt stood for the Freedom4Choice Party, not Freedom2Choose which is a PRO-CHOICE organisation opposed to the blanket smoking ban experiment, and the micromanagement of our lifestyles by the state.
By standing in the by-election he at least highlighted that fact. He has made his point! I think he knew full well that he was not going to win that by-election.
