LANCASHIRE’S fire service boss is set to become presid-ent of the Chief Fire Officers’ Association.

Peter Holland, chief fire officer for the county since 1999, has been voted in by members to become the new vice-president elect – leading directly to the full presid-ential role in July 2010.

The CFOA is the official organisation for principal fire officers in the UK, and meets to discuss national fire safety matters, shaping reforms in the fire and rescue service.

As vice-president elect in 2008/2009, Mr Holland will be responsible for areas in the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as leading fire research.

He said: “I am delighted to be elected by colleagues to serve the Chief Fire Officers’ Association for the next three years.

“As part of the presidential team, I will be working alongside current president Charlie Hendry and vice-president John Bonney to help continue the outstanding service that fire and rescue services provide to comm-unities across the UK.”
