Two men were cut free from a car after it smashed into a lamppost on Blackpool Promenade while allegedly trying to flee from the police.
Police say the driver tried to speed off when he spotted a police patrol car at about 3.15pm yesterday, having possibly been involved in a minor accident just before.
He then lost control of the Ford Escort, smashing it into a lamppost before ending up on the tram tracks, at the junction with Squires Gate Lane.
The impact was so severe that the engine came out of the vehicle.
Fire crews freed two people from the vehicle, and ambulances took them to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
The driver suffered a broken collar bone while the passenger sustained a broken leg.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Blackpool Police on 01253 293933 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
