Family movie channel Disney Cinemagic is set to create Britain’s biggest piece of beach art with a monster size picture tomorrow to celebrate the start of the summer holidays and their “Monster Summer”, kicking off with Monsters Inc. on Sunday.
The channel has commissioned a team of ten highly skilled artists to create the sand picture of Sulley, the iconic character from popular film Monsters Inc., on top family beach - Blackpool.
The artists are undertaking a monster-sized challenge in their attempt to create a picture that spans 40,000 square feet – the equivalent to three Olympic sized swimming pools.
And it will be a battle against the elements, with the artists working from 4.30am to complete the picture before it is washed away by high tide at 11.45am.
John Lundberg, from Disney Cinemagic’s team of artists, said: “This is going to be a monster challenge for the team – it’s a big picture with a huge amount of detail required and it’s a tight time frame, but we’re confident that we can do it.”
Councillor Mary Smith, the Mayor of Blackpool said: “We are delighted that Disney Cinemagic has chosen Blackpool Beach for this ambitious stunt.
"As families flock to the sands tomorrow we hope they will enjoy the spectacle of the giant picture being created.”
