Smoke ban rebel to stand in Blackpool by-election

Smoke ban rebel landlord Hamish Howitt has been confirmed as a candidate in the forthcoming by-election in the Haltemprice and Howden constituency.

Mr Howitt, who runs the Happy Scots Bar and Delboy’s Sports Bar on Rigby Road will contest the election under the banner of the Freedom 4 Choice Blackpool party.

A total of 26 candidates are vying for election, including David Davis, the former shadow Home Secretary, who sparked the contest by resigning over the issue of civil liberties.

The election will take place on Thursday, July 10.

Among the other hopefuls seeking to an MP will be the Church of the Militant Elvis candidate David Bishop and Mad Cow-Girl from the Monster Raving Loony Party.
