Motorist injured following major Blackpool road smash

A major Blackpool road has been closed this morning after a man needed to be cut from his car after it hit a lamp post.
Traffic was tailing back in both directions on Preston New Road after the incident at around 9.15am.
Emergency services were called to the scene and fire officers used cutting equipment to free the driver of a Vauxhall Vectra.
He was still conscious but the extent of his injuries are not yet known.
The road was expected to re-open later this morning.
