Smoke ban rebel in bid for Parliament

Smoking ban rebel, Hamish Howitt, has revealed he plans to stand for parliament in the by-election caused by shadow Home Secretary David Davis's resignation.

Mr Howitt, who has vehemently opposed the smoking ban since its introduction last July, facing the courts on several occasions, claims he will fight the election under the party name Freedom to Choose.

The bar owner, who runs Delboy's Sports Bar and the Happy Scots, both on Rigby Road, accused Davis of standing up for the rights of potential terrorists while ignoring the ordinary working class smokers'.

The election will be in the Yorkshire constituency of Haltemprice and Howden, on a yet unspecified date.

Mr Howitt and his wife Jo, from Park Road, Blackpool, next appear before magistrates in Blackpool on Wednesday, where they face four charges of contravening smoking legislation.
