Fylde children's theatre school wins lottery grant

7:48pm Wednesday 14th May 2008

A Fylde Coast children's theatre school is celebrating after being awarded a lottery grant of £8,000.

The Class Act group is a non-profit organisation that provides local youngsters with lessons in dance, drama and singing.

The school was officially opened on May 3, by the then Mayor of Blackpool, Councillor Robert Wynne.

An afternoon of entertainment was also provided at the usual base of Holy Family church hall, on Links Road, with more than 100 local youngsters performing various showcases to an audience that included the mayor and Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Joan Humble.

Rachel Sykes, school principal, said: "The afternoon was a great success thanks to the dedicated staff members here.

"The children were amazing and we successfully raised the profile of Class Act to the people in Blackpool who are making decisions about the town's future.

"We need them to be aware of the work we do here.

"Our aim is to keep children and young people focused and actively participating in diversionary activities is a must for those who live in Blackpool's inner wards.

"We require lots of support so that we can gain further funding in order to continue implementing classes on an accessible level to all children."

The grant was from the National Lottery funded body Awards for All, who fund art, sport and education based community projects.
