Thousands join Beaverbrooks 10k fun run in Blackpool

2:26pm Monday 12th May 2008

Nearly 4,000 fun-runners braved blistering heat to run the annual Beaverbrooks 10k fun run yesterday.

The day had a carnival feel to it, with the Promenade bathed in glorious sunshine and music blasting out from the Piers and the Sandcastle Waterpark.

The event, in its 26th year, saw runners leave from the Blackpool Hilton Hotel and head down the Prom to the Pleasure Beach.

All proceeds from the event go to the Blackpool's A Knockout appeal, the mayor Coun Robert Wynne's charity, which has raised funds to provide MRI scanning equipment for children at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Lytham's Jonathon Prowse, 32, claimed overall victory, finishing in just under 32 minutes, while the women's race was won by Anna Pichrtova, 34, who was visiting the town from the Czech Republic.
