Fylde residents call to Blackpool Victoria Hospital improvement seminar

Fylde coast residents are being urged to attend a seminar about a multi-million pound investment that will improve facilities for patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
Mike Gallagher from Blackpool Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is to hold talks on Tuesday May 20 on the hospital's vision for the future, including investment plans that will transform the hospital over the next decade.
The plans include a new state-of-the-art combined women and children's unit, an integrated surgical unit including theatres, wards and beds and the development of a new Urgent Care Centre.
Mr Gallagher, director of facilities at the trust, said: "A number of the buildings on the Victoria site are now over 70 years old and are no longer suitable for the delivery of healthcare in the 21st century.
"We have carried out a complete review of the site and whilst some of the buildings can be adapted to meet the needs of a modern service, others need to be replaced with modern, purpose-designed buildings."
To attend one of the seminars you must be a member of the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Trust, which is free.
There will be two hour-long seminars, one at 9.30am and one at 5.30pm, in the lecture theatre in the Health Professionals Education Centre (HPEC) at the hospital.
Mr Gallagher added: "These are significant developments which will completely transform the hospital site and we look forward to consulting with our members and our governors as our plans develop."
