Escapologist Danny Hunt helped launch Blackpool's festival of magic, circus and new variety today, by submerging himself into a water torture cell, before escaping.
Danny was fastened into handcuffs with a prisoners' transport belt holding his hands by his waist.
He was then suspended by his ankles and lowered head first into a 16 inch square perspex box, with his head padlocked into stocks.
His partner Annette pulled the lever to start the water flooding in.
Danny, most famous for his escapes from Ripon's Victorian jail and Dick Turpin's cell in the York Castle Museum, had two minutes to escape and completed the task just in time.
The Showzam festival will run from February 8 to 24.
