The new laser beam at the tower
A world famous astronomer has slammed the latest addition to Blackpool's Illuminations.
Sir Patrick Moore criticised Blackpool Tower for installing a green laser beam,which shoots out a light show every ten minutes.
It is claimed the beam can be seen 30 miles away, and will light up the sky above the resort until the Illuminations end on November 4.
Sir Patrick said: "Light pollution is a huge problem. I am not saying we should turn all the lights out, that is not practical, but there are some things which are very unnecessary.
"The Blackpool Tower light is certainly something I do not think we should be doing. I very much oppose it."
