CPS to see expenses evidence of Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner

THE Crown Prosecution Service has issued an update on its investigation into Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw’s expenses.

Mr Grunshaw was last week suspended from the Labour Party as the CPS launched an investigation into his expenses claims.

It will focus on expenses claims for travel made by Mr Grunshaw while he was a Labour county councillor and police authority member before his election in November.

A CPS spokesman said: “The CPS is not yet in a position to consider whether criminal charges should be brought in relation to the allegations against Mr Grunshaw.

“We await the full file of evidence from them before a review of the case can be carried out.

“Only once all the relevant evidence is passed to us we will be able to consider if charges should be brought.”

I stand to be corrected, but as I understand this Mr Grunshaw has admitted to discrepancies in his expenses- but disputes that it was his intention to defraud the LCC.
Mr Grunshaw is now, as PCC, in charge of a multi million pound budget. One of his officers under similar investigation would have been suspended months ago, if not already been dealt with by he courts.
