RESERVE firefighters dealt with five emergency incidents across Lancashire during Wednesday’s strike action.
As well as rescuing a woman from a stuck stairlift at her home in Colne Road, Brierfield at 1.30pm, there was a house fire in Preston and a shed fire in Skelmersdale.
There was also a road incident in Blackpool involving three casualties, including one person rescued from a vehicle.
Crews also found a person reported to have been hit by a train near Scorton in the Forest of Bowland.
A reserve team of firefighters who had pre-arranged cover during the FBU strike saw approximately 60 per cent of Lancashire’s fire engines remain in operation.
FBU members who work in the control room also worked through the strike.
A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The majority of our frontline fire engines were available and were deployed in the usual manner by our control team.
“During the course of the industrial action, noon to 4pm, our resilience crews successfully dealt with a number of incidents.”
