Preston to Blackpool bike ride planned for Rosemere Cancer Foundation

A mini-peloton of primary schoolchildren will lead the way in a charity cycle ride tomorrow from a village near Preston to Blackpool in aid of local cancer patients.

The annual Rosemere Cancer Foundation Bike Ride will start in Catforth, near Preston, at 9am, and take riders along the quiet country lanes of Lancashire to the outskirts of Blackpool to finish back in the village of Catforth.

Children as young as seven years old to grandparents aged 74 will follow the 30-mile signposted route, which largely follows Cycle Route 90.

They will be supported by a back up vehicle and the British Red Cross.

Sue Thompson, Chief Officer, Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: "We're delighted by the turnout and we would like to say a big thank all those taking part.

"Almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer and by joining in the bike ride and supporting the Rosemere Cancer Foundation these kind-hearted cyclists are helping to fund projects which are of direct benefit to cancer patients."

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation is based at the Royal Preston Hospital, part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which provides cancer care services for people in Lancashire and South Cumbria.

It raises funds to support the provision of cancer services at the cancer centre at the Royal Preston Hospital and in the local cancer units throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria.
