Wind turbines unveiled at Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is now generating its own power thanks to the recent addition of six wind turbines installed on the roof of the new Education Academy, located in Ocean Boulevard, near The Star.

The new turbines have a 66ins diameter and are designed to be attractive yet practical to the job in hand.

The turbines, designed and manufactured in California, were installed in two days by Cellspace Energy Systems.

It is expected that the six turbines will generate 10,000 kWh per annum which will be fed into the Pleasure Beach electrical system, supplementing power drawn from the national grid.

Pleasure Beach managing director, Amanda Thompson, said: "It's fantastic to see the new turbines on Ocean Boulevard generating a green source of energy for our 100 rides and attractions.

"This is just one of our commitments to the environment and making Pleasure Beach a greener place".

Pleasure Beach Blackpool is one of Britain's top tourist attractions and welcomes nearly six million visitors annually.

It lies in 42 acres, started with just one ride in 1896, and celebrated its Centenary in 1996.

The park is home to the Europe's tallest rollercoaster - The Pepsi Max Big One, the world's largest dark ride - Valhalla and the spectacular Hot Ice and Forbidden shows.
