Programme to feature sex change paratrooper
A former paratrooper who became the first officer in the British Armed Forces to undergo a sex-change operation will appear on a TV documentary tonight.
Jan Hamilton, now 43, who lives in Lytham St Annes, used to be Captain Ian Hamilton before the operation.
Watch the full story tonight on Channel 4's Cutting Edge, "Sex Change Soldier", at 9pm.

Nothing worked until I finally changed.Iwas 54 tho, how I wish I had the courage and Knowledge many years before. However I am now totally happy and live my life the way it was meant to be. Btw. I used to live in 'Stoney', I recognised the harbour and the Bervie Brea's straight away. I was there working at one of the hardest jobs to 'prove' something. If this gets passed on to you, I would be pleased to correspond via e-mail. smiles well done girl!x

Jan, you are an inspiration to me. I transitioned 5 months ago, but I am lucky enough to have the support of my family. I felt so bad for you when I saw you on TV. Your parents should be proud to have you as their daughter. You were incredibly brave to go through both those operations and with nobody there to hold your hand. I wish I had known you before to give you support. I would love to be your friend (I am 53), so if you ever need someone to chat to, I would love to be that person - by phone, e mail or in person. Take Care and enjoy your new life. With looks like yours, you will not be on your own for very long.
