Impression given was 'inaccurate'

I am writing in response to the article which appeared in the Citizen on August 28 entitled Cash Stockpile*.

My purpose in writing is to correct the erroneous impression given by your article and by the county councillors who were quoted.

The article said that this school had a reserve of £340,000 at the end of the year. This is inaccurate.

The published reserve figure was £281,560 of which £54,000 was committed funds for orders placed but not yet received, and a further £136,000 was money held on behalf of the local authority, at their request, for a joint project between this school, St Bede’s and Carr Hill High School.

This means that the actual reserve figure for this school was just over £91,000, or 1.26 per cent of our total budget of over £7.2million. Our reserve is actually much lower than the five per cent recommendation set by the local authority for school reserves.

Whilst I agree that schools should not build up excessive reserves, I do hope you will be able to correct the false impression given by your article that this school has done so.
