Live from New York: Joe Bonamassa (Provogue Records).
Joe Bonamassa might not be making an impact on the singles charts but his fine song-writing and extraordinary guitar playing have earned him a legion of fans.
With 13 solo albums to his name and as part of Black Country Communion, Bonamassa never seems to stop playing and is forging a strong place in rock’s hierarchy.
This 2-CD live album, recorded at New York’s Beacon Theatre, showcases his many strengths and provides testament to the amazing concert performances his fans have come to expect.
There are songs here that span Bonamassa’s career, including favourites like Slow Train, Midnight Blues and Dust Bowl.
Bonamassa keeps excellent musical companay and here Beth Hart joins him on stage for duets on I’ll Take Care Of You and Sinner’s Prayer, while John Hiatt joins him for renditions of Down Around My Place amd I Know A Place.
Another highlight is the appearance of Paul Rodgers, who delivers an incendiary vocal performance, particularly on Free’s classic Fire And Water.
It must have been great to have been at the Beacon that night. Those who were not there are fortunate to be able to enjoy the event through this release.
