UNDISPUTED Queen of Disco Gloria Gaynor is touring the UK for the first time in 20 years this month - and she's calling at Preston on the way.

Gloria's run of smash hits in the 1970s began with Never Can Say Goodbye and she followed it up with the monster hit I Will Survive, which became a worldwide smash in 1979 and established her as the biggest disco artist of the time.

The song was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Disco Recording in 1980 and has remained a classic to this day.

Gloria's I Will Survive 30th Anniversary Tour will also see special guests The Drifters performing at venues around the UK.

We put some questions to her.

IF YOU HAD TO BE STUCK IN A LIFT WITH SOMEONE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
My soul mate.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST FEAR?
I have no fears. My greatest concern is that I will die without having fulfilled God's plan and purpose for my life.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUPERSTITIONS?
No.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONLY ONE SONG ON YOUR IPOD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
A gospel song I recently recorded called, of all things, I Will Survive..

WHAT'S THE MOST EXPENSIVE THING YOU'VE BOUGHT?
A diamond ring.

WHAT'S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN?
Lean not to your own understanding, acknowledge God and he will direct your paths.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED AND WHY?
This morning, because during my quiet time I was thinking about the love and goodness of God.

WHAT'S YOUR INDULGENCE?
Shoes.

HOW ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ARE YOU?
I try to live green.

HOW MANY TEXTS DO YOU SEND A DAY?
None.

WHO'S THE MOST FAMOUS PERSON IN YOUR MOBILE?
Denise Rich or Felipe Rose of the Village People.

WHAT ITEM COULD YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?
My Bible.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
My tendency to be critical.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING ON HOLIDAY?
Nashville or a cruise.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING THIS TIME YESTERDAY?
Preparing for a performance at the Race for the Cure for the New Jersey Chapter of the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING THIS TIME TOMORROW?
Probably answering my fan mail.

  • See Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive 30th Anniversary Tour at Preston Guild Hall on Wednesday, May 28. For tickets call 0845 344 2012.
